Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), also known as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or venereal diseases (VDs), are infections that are spread by sex - including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. People who have an STI may have no visible signs of infection in the early stages and may not know they have an STI.
The most common STIs are syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital warts, and genital herpes.
Information on specific Sexually Transmitted Infections is available here.
Additional MDHHS resources can be found here.
The Wear One campaign provides free condoms and education on STI services, including testing and treatment. The public can stop in and pick up a Wear One condom bag that includes 8 condoms, lube, and STI/HIV testing information. Bags are available in all office location bathrooms.
The goal is to decrease sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies by removing barriers to condom use, such as cost, embarrassment, and lack of access.
For more information on Wear One, visit the Ottawa County Department of Public Health's webpage.
Partner Management
To reduce the spread of STIs, we offer a partner assistance and referral program and can help notify sex partners of persons with HIV and other selected STIs, offer prevention counseling, and encourage the partner’s examination and/or treatment.
Local Disease Statistics
Information is available for all incidence of reportable diseases as well as other selected statical information for the tri-county area.
