FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BHSJ Community Health Agency Concludes Mobile WIC Pilot in Waldron and Litchfield

Hillsdale, MI – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency understands that some families have relied on mobile WIC services in Waldron and Litchfield. Beginning August 7, 2026, the agency will discontinue these mobile clinic locations while continuing to provide WIC services through its office locations and virtual options whenever possible.

We have appreciated the partnership of  Waldron District Library and the City of Litchfield as we have provided this service for the past year. After evaluating participation over the past year, the agency determined that most WIC participants preferred receiving services at its office locations. This shift in how families access services led the Board of Health to discontinue the mobile clinics and explore the future of the mobile unit.

Our priority remains ensuring that every eligible family can access WIC services," said Rebecca Burns, Health Officer. "Over the past year, most participants chose to receive services in our offices or through available virtual options. While we recognize this change may be disappointing for some families, we remain committed to making WIC services accessible and appreciate the support of the Waldron District Library, the City of Litchfield, and our Board of Health throughout this pilot effort.”

Current WIC participants who used the Waldron or Litchfield mobile clinics are encouraged to contact our office at 517-437-7395 to schedule future appointments or learn about virtual services when appropriate.

WIC provides nutrition education, healthy food benefits, breastfeeding support, developmental screening, and referrals to community resources for eligible pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under age five.

Eligibility is based on household income and family size. Many families receiving Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF automatically qualify. Current income guidelines are available at the agency's website.

The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency is committed to promoting wellness, preventing disease, providing health care, and protecting the environment.
