Branch Hillsdale St. Joseph Community Health Agency Prepared to Provide FDA Approved Pfizer (Comirnaty) Vaccine

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given approval for the use of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for persons age 16 and older.

This approval removes the Emergency Use Authorization designation, except for those ages 12 through 15. The vaccine will be marketed as Comirnaty. Comirnaty is a messenger RNA vaccine (mRNA) which does not change an individual’s DNA but allows the body to identify the COVID-19 virus signaling the body to fight the virus quickly.

“Even though we are seeing vaccinated individuals develop COVID-19, vaccination has reduced the number of individuals with significant illness requiring hospitalization and fewer deaths. The prevalence of the Delta variant in the community should make us pause and consider the additional steps we need to take as individuals and a community to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Residents are encouraged to contact their primary care physician or your local health department with questions.” said Dr. Vogel, Medical Director.
