PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING

Tuesday August 20, 2019

PFAS Information Meeting, Constantine High School, 6:00pm - 7:30pm

An informational meeting about proposed residential well PFAS sampling will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 6:00-7:30pm in the Media Room at Constantine High School. Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are a large group of man-made chemicals that have been used in many consumer and industrial products, such as non-stick cookware, waterproof fabrics, and firefighting foam. In July of 2019, test results from two wells located at 152 Depot Street, showed low levels of PFAS. Based on those results, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), and the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, will begin testing select residential drinking water wells within the Village of Constantine. The Village of Constantine municipal water supply was tested for PFAS on October 4, 2018. Test results showed no PFAS was found in the water. Residents within the area outlined in yellow on the map who have private drinking water wells and are not served by municipal water, as well as other interested residents, are encouraged to attend the meeting.
